Household Hazardous Waste
Household hazardous waste cannot be disposed of in the trash!There are many items that are considered household hazardous waste. Please look for "signal or warning words" on labels such as Poison, Danger, Warning, Caution, and Precautionary Statements, to assist you in determining if your item is household hazardous waste.
The following is a partial list of household hazardous waste:
- Liquid latex or oil base paint, non-empty aerosol cans, paint thinners, antifreeze and other vehicle fluids (excluding used motor that is accepted at the curb in the proper container).
- Pesticides, herbicides, poisons, etc.
The San Benito County Integrated Waste Management Regional Agency holds a Household Hazardous Waste collection event.
When: Third Saturday of every month
Where: John Smith Road Landfill, 2650 John Smith Road, Hollister
Time: 9:00am to 12:00pm (noon)
This event is free to residents of San Benito County. You may bring up to 15 gallons or 125 pounds per trip. Please call (831) 636-4110 for more information.
